LEGO Building Ideas: LEGO Camping Lantern
Over the years, we have shared some awesome LEGO Building Ideas! One of our favorites is our DIY Removable LEGO Wall but you should see some of the inventive ideas out there! I love all the cool ideas over at Frugal Fun for Boys, like this awesome LEGO Racetrack for Hotwheels and their cool LEGO Catupult Ideas! Today's LEGO idea, however was fully inspired by an awesome kid-made camping lantern featured in ULTIMATE Backyard Summer Camp eBook! It's a LEGO Camping Lantern!
Now this was a bit more intricate than our LEGO Wall but if you are already a LEGO fan you are totally okay with that! (Note: This post may contain affiliate links which won’t change your price but will share some commission.)
As with any LEGO creation, if you or your kids go whipping it around of course it may very well shatter into a hundred tiny pieces. But if you and your child spend the time to make this, hopefully everyone will know to treat it with care, just like you would a real camping lantern!

That said, here is all it takes to make one!
LEGO Camping Lantern Materials
LEGO Bricks and Small Base (I used the LEGO Creator Small Cottage 3 in 1 set)
Yarn or Twine
LEGO Camping Lantern Directions
Build your house – I made mine pretty much based on the instructions in the small cottage set, especially the roof. This set allows the walls to hinge open which is cool, and handy for when you want to turn the lantern on and off. However, I kept mine to just four regular walls. Really you just need a basic house with a sturdy roof and doors or windows on all sides. You can use the bricks you have if you don't wish to purchase the same set.
Trim your parchment – Cut a rectangle of parchment that will fit inside your house.
Add light and string – Remove the roof of your house, insert the parchment paper to line the walls. Switch on the tea light, set it in the center of the house. Cut a length of yarn or twine to use as your handle and lay it across the top of the walls.
Put it all together – Replace the roof of your house and press everything tightly into place. Tie your handle with a tight knot and you are all done!
