My mom is a tricky one to shop for. She is not picky but she doesn’t have any specific hobbies that I can cater to. Two things I CAN count on that I know she loves are photo gifts of my kids and chocolate. Hands down. For SURE. So I thought it would be fun to combine her two loves in a personalized homemade Mothers Day Gift!
We started out with a crafty painting play date with our friends at Makeovers and Motherhood and Craftulate, where we actually used Silky Smooth Dove Dark Chocolate Promises as our secret ingredient for kid-safe edible paint! We had kids from toddlers to school age and we let them paint and taste as we went. In the end we had a photoshoot using hearts cut from their creations! Here is my daughter holding a fantastic chocolate heart!
So we have our photo component and it involves chocolate too! Bonus!
The next step was to make a photo gift for mom that would show her how we feel about her.
Some of my fondest memories of my mom involve times when something made us laugh so hard we were crying! It happened a LOT growing up. I can totally picture her laughing…and then her laughter made me laugh even more! It is my favorite way to think of her. So I wanted to show her that we love her in a playful way. She likes our kids, so she must like cute and playful- what can I say? HA!
I hopped on the old computer and designed up a chocolate bar wrapper that we could add the kids pictures to. If you’d like to print your own to make with your own photo, I’ve got good news! The free printable is available RIGHT here! Just click that link to download the PDF. Print it out, preferably on cardstock. When the ink is dry, cut the wrapper from the paper. You can either glue a photo onto the wrapper, or cut out the square and have it show through from behind, like a little picture frame!
It should fit just right around a large Dove Chocolate Bar, just add a little glue stick and overlap the ends at the back.
The hardest part will be picking out what variety of Dove Dark Chocolate to get for mom! I would pick the Mint & Dark Chocolate Swirl because I am a sucker for mint. My mom, however is totally a Silky Smooth Almond Dark Chocolate fan, so that was what we wrapped up for her!
Ta-da! That is it! Now you have a cute, personalized CHOCOLATE homemade Mother’s Day Gift!
I actually had the pleasure of writing this post via MomTrends as a sponsored post on behalf of Dove Dark Chocolate and you will not believe this but they sent me a whole box of chocolates to inspire me for this project! *I* don’t even need a Mother’s Day gift because that is enough for me, boy! The Silky Smooth Dark Chocolates Promises were perfect for our chocolate painting and the kids loved sampling them…as did the moms! I will say though, that having the Promises handy- especially the Sea Salted Caramel ones- has been great for when I have a chocolate craving but I don’t want to have a HUGE chocolate bar. However we did give Grandma a Large Silky Smooth Dark Chocolate Almond bar because well for a gift we wanted something purely decadent!

While you are at it you should also hop over to Makeovers and Motherhood to see what Alisha made from her kids’ painted chocolate artwork! We had such a fun time at our play date!
