This Turkey placemat can be used with SOOO many materials. It would be a great activity for a class Thanksgiving party or at home to keep the kids busy while everyone is waiting for the big meal!

So first things first. You need to download these super cute free Turkey Placemat Printables from the Lalymom Shop Page. Look under Free Printables!

Kids Thanksgiving Craft Materials Ideas

Now that you have those adorable gobble gobblers, take note that there are three versions in the document. One with gray tail feathers for coloring, one with no tail for free form play, and one with feathers with circles for use with round objects.

When you go to print your PDF please look at your print settings and make sure the page is set to horizontal. Print however many copies you want and let them dry.

Depending on what materials you want to use with them you can laminate them with my favorite laminator or place them in easy peasy sheet protectors if you wish.

Materials you can use with the turkey placemats for a fun kids Thanksgiving craft

Once you have them all ready, here are some craft materials you can use on the printable turkey placemats. To start, each placemat has a space to write your name and what you are thankful for. Bigger kids can write their own, but feel free to write the information in for the littles! Then get playing!

Please note: Some of the items below could be sharp or choking hazards for young children. Consider the ages of your kids or party guests when choosing what to set out. Provide adult supervision if necessary and be sure all materials are picked up if there are any babies around. 🙂

The top turkey placemat, with no tail feathers is great for open ended play that works on squishing, squeezing, pinching, cutting and more:

Playdough
Colored Craft Sticks
Feathers
Construction paper and safety scissors
Paint swatches (ask your local paint store for swatches for outdated product lines!) and safety scissors
Colored Craft Tape or Chevron Washi Tape (mine is Recollections Brand from Michaels but I could not find it on their website)

The turkey placemat on the left with shadowed tail feathers would be fun to use for mark-making, coloring and drawing with:

Crayons
Markers
Watercolors
Blendable kids pastels

The turkey placemat on the right with circles in the feathers could to focus on pincer grasp and hand eye coordination, placing small items in the circles. You can try this with:

Pom Poms
Large wooden Beads
Do a Dot Markers
Bingo Chip Markers
Paper Punches and construction paper

What other items would you set out and use with these turkey placemats?
