Awesome gift ideas for parents who love to spend time with their kids - great Christmas ideas to encourage quality time on Lalymom.com

When shopping for friends and family with small children I like to try to think of gifts that the family could enjoy together. Let's take a look at a few categories of gifts to consider.

For quick and easy shopping, you can find all of the Amazon items below in my Amazon Shop or you can click the individual links below to go right to the Amazon product page.

Quality Time Books

There are some really lovely new books out this year that will inspire tons of quality time activities. It would be fun to pair these books with some basic craft supplies so I'll share done ideas for that too!

Ranging from youngest to oldest, I'd recommend these:

99 Fine Motor Ideas for Ages 1 to 5. Okay. I'm biased. It's my book. But these activities are all play-based so they'll be really fun to do together and have the bonus of targeting fine motor skills. There are chapters covering sensory play, arts and crafts, busy bags, toys and more! Pair it with Learning Resources Fine Motor Toolkit, pom poms, pipe cleaners, crafts sticks, clothespins, play dough and safety scissors.

150 Screen Free Activities For Kids. This book is full of seriously awesome play ideas! Get the family away from tube and play together! It features tons of play recipes, many of which are taste safe that even the youngest bubs can play with. There are also DIY Toys to make and ideas for small world pretend play. Pair it with a large plastic bin and a party table cloth for keeping those awesome play recipes contained as well as some plastic animals and liquid watercolors.

Tinkerlab: A Hands-On Guide for Little Inventors. This book is a collection of incredibly inventive and beautifully photographed genius activities to get kids thinking. Not only are there activities that appeal to a wide range of ages but there are questions to ask along the way to encourage critical thinking within each activity. Pair it with markers, a roll of paper, glue, colorful tape and straws.

101 Kids Activities That Are the Bestest, Funnest Ever!: The Entertainment Solution for Parents, Relatives & Babysitters! This book has a mix of ideas for younger and older kids. You'll find fun ideas like DIY bouncy balls, DIY sidewalk chalk, obstacle courses, detective games and many many more. Pair it with some awesome food coloring, pom poms, pipe cleaners, rubber bands and marbles.

Quality Time Experience Gifts

Movie are a great way to spend time together and have some fun. Fandango Gift Cards would be a great gift for any family!

For the watch-at-home movie family, Amazon Prime is an awesome gift. Not only does it give you the benefit of free two day shipping from Amazon but it includes streaming access to TONS of movies and shows. We love our Amazon Prime membership and highly recommend it to all our friends and family. Seriously. We are nuts for it.

Where was I? Oh movies.

If you like the movies ideas but would rather give something tangible, how about the Disney Pixar Box Set, the Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase One Box Set or the crazy awesome Harry Potter Wizard's collection.

There are also a bunch of awesome subscriptions you can give to families for monthly kits that include everything you need for a handful of activities or crafts.

Little Blast offers science activities by mail. For families with tweens and teens who like to craft there is Lulubee monthly craft boxes. For a one-time science kit gift check out the Young Scientists Club kits,

Memberships to favorite museums make great family gifts. Check out ChildrensMuseums.org for a searchable list to find one near your loved one.

Similar to museum memberships, think about the specific interests of your loved ones and browse TicketMaster to find tickets to sports events, music venues, theater tickets or more! Some of my favorite memories with my kids have been special events like Disney on Ice. My husband recently took our daughter to her first baseball and college football game and had a blast!

If you're far away or you want something that won't require wrapping or shipping, there are tons of great eBooks out there too! I have several in my shop so check them out!

Get the Family Moving

Actually, wait a second- I totally already covered that topic! Most of the gifts in my Get Kids Moving Gift List would be perfect to give to families to encourage active time together as a whole! Pop over and check it out!
