Leading the Meeting
These roles usually happen at the beginning of each meeting.Â
- Welcome Wagon- Greets each girl on the way in, can be combined with attendance taker. Not every troop will have a Welcome Wagon but larger troops can add one. It can also be assigned to the first scout to show up to the meeting.Â
- Ceremony Captain- Depending on the size of your troop this can be one person, or broken up into the separate jobs below. But this person can lead the troop in all of your opening ceremony tasks, such as the Pledge, Promise, Law and even friendship circle at the beginning or end of the meeting.Â
- Pledge Pal / Pledge Partner / Pledge Pro- Leads the troop in saying the Pledge of Allegiance.Â
- Promise Pal / Promise Partner / Promise Keeper- Leads the troop in saying the Girl Scout Promise (Grab my free printable here)Â
- Law Leader- Leads the troop in saying the Girl Scout Law. We always combined this with Promise Pal but you can have two separate jobs if you wish.Â
- Squeeze Starter / Squeeze Sender / Circle Captain- Is the first to squeeze a hand during the friendship circle.Â
- Flag Friend / Flag Bearer / Flag Fanatic- Holds the American Flag during the pledge and puts it away properly. If you have a troop flag you can have two girls responsible for flags.
Attendance & Organization
These roles help keep the troop organized and running smoothly over time.Â
- Attendance Attendant / Attendance Ace / Roll Caller- Mark down attendance each week. Can be combined with Dues Duty if you collect dues each week.Â
- Treasurer / Dues Duty / Dues Diva- This scout collects and records troop dues, if they are collected at meetings. They can also announce the troop funds balance, or report recent fundraising results. (Some troops have parents pay a set dues payment at the beginning of the year, others may collect a quarter or dollar at each meeting, etc.)Â
- Kaper Keeper- Moves the Kaper chart markers according to your system. Can also announce them at the beginning of the meeting.Â
- Calendar Keeper- Announces upcoming dates, birthdays, meetings and events. Marks down any that need to be added.Â
- Badge Buddy- can help record, announce and hand out badges earned. Some troops do this at the end of a meeting while others hold occasional ceremonies to announce badges earned.Â
Snack & Cleanup
If your troop eats or does crafts, these roles will ensure things go smoothly and are cleaned up afterwards.Â
- Snack Chick / Snack Star / Snack Sergeant- Passes out troop snacks if you eat during your meeting.
- Water Wrangler- Can be combined with snack duty, or omitted if everyone has water bottles, but this person passes out water.Â
- Queen of Clean / King of Clean / Clean Team Captain- This person picks up garbage and recycling at the end of snack time, crafts and activities.Â
- Trash Tracker / Trash Troopers- For large troops, you can have multiple kids on cleanup under the captain.Â
- Table Tamer- Checks the tables at the end of the meeting for lost & found, garbage, spills, and to ensure all furniture is put back the way you found it.Â
- Dish Duty / Dish Diva- If you use reusable dishes, this person washes and puts them away after use.Â

Crafts & Activities
These roles assist during the main activity of the meeting, after opening ceremonies and attendance tasks are completed.Â
- Craft Critter / Craft Captain / Craft Boss- Leads the craft or activity for the meeting, or assists the troop leader during the craft. This can include all of the following, or they can be broken up into individual roles.Â
- Supply Sergeant / Materials Manager- Passes out materials, cleans up unused materials and accounts for troop supplies.Â
- Game Guru / Game Guide- Leads the troop in any games, explains rules, passes out game materials.Â
- Activity Ace- If you do activities instead of crafts this person can lead and explain the activity, or assist the troop leader during the activity.Â
Support Roles
These are general helpers and can assist at any time during the meeting.Â
- Leader’s Helper / Leader’s Little Helper- This person generally assists the troop leader during the meeting and can also be a substitute for anyone who is absent. This role can include all of the following, or for larger troops, can be broken down to have each role separate.Â
- Line Leader- If your troop travels from one place to another, this person leads the line. Often this person holds up the troop hand signal to remind the troop to be quiet while walking.Â
- Door Holder / Door Duty- Similarly, if your troop regularly leaves one place and goes somewhere else, you can assign a person to hold the door.Â
- Light Switcher- Cut down on the race to turn on the light by assigning someone to do this.Â
- Quiet Captain- This person holds up the girl scout hand signal to restore quiet when noise gets out of hand.Â
- Buddy Checker- For activities where you split off into buddies, this person confirms each person has a buddy and doesn’t leave until they are together.Â
- Substitute Star- Larger troops especially need a substitute to cover kids who are absent.Â
Camping Jobs
Camping comes with it’s own unique set of tasks. Many troops will have a separate Kaper Chart for campouts.Â
- Fire Starter Helper / Fire Watcher- This scout assists your fire-trained adult in starting, maintaining and extinguishing your campfire. They should not be attending to the fire on their own.Â
- Dish Crew / Dish Duty- Washes troop dishes. Can be multiple kids, to wash, dry, put away dishes.Â
- Tent Check Captain- Ensures properly set up and cleaned tents. If you are using permanent tents at a campground this person checks every tent thoroughly before you leave for cleanliness and any items left behind.Â
- Gear Guard- Checks in and out any troop gear to be sure you have everything.Â
- Trail Leader / Trail Guide- Leads the troop on any hikes.Â
- Camp Cleanup Crew- Maintains a clean campground.Â

- Water Filler- Fetches water into the larger vessel or helps keep everyone hydrated. Also gets water to extinguish campfires.Â
- Nature Watcher- Keeps an eye out for wildlife and special plants during the campout. Can be nice to have a local wildlife printout or book (ask the park ranger or campgrounds staff if they have anything specific to your campground).
- Flashlight Finder- Checks in and out troop flashlights, or makes sure everyone has a working flashlight for night hikes or walking to the outhouse, etc.Â
- First Aid Helper- Assists the first aid trained adult with any first aid needs (this scout does not administer first aid).Â
- Morning Wake-Up Crew- In charge of waking the troop at the agreed upon wakeup time.Â

FAQ
Do camping trips need different kaper chart jobs than regular meetings?
Many troops find it helpful, since camp jobs (fire helper, dish duty, tent checks) are different from typical meeting tasks like snack and cleanup.
How many jobs should I actually use?
Pick only as many as your meeting or trip actually needs — you don’t have to use every job on this list. Most troops land somewhere between 6 and 12 for regular meetings.
Do Kaper Chart jobs change depending on troop age level? They can increase throughout the years.Â
- Daisies are just learning routines. The goal is one clear task each, not multiple responsibilities. Skip anything requiring reading or multi-step instructions.
- Brownies can follow a short routine and remember a job across the whole meeting, so this is where “manager”-style roles (like Kaper Keeper) start to make sense.
- Juniors will benefit from more autonomy. Jobs that involve tracking something over time (calendar, badges) or making small decisions on their own are great to add.
- Cadettes and older girls often outgrow chore-style kaper charts entirely in favor of committee-style responsibilities.
