The Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law [Printable]
Today we are sharing resources for your Girl Scout Troop to help learn the Girl Scout Promise and Girl Scout Law, including the text, some video versions and a free printable version. If you need the Girl Scout Promise and Law, we've got you covered. There are some partner shopping links in this article as well.

When a troop is formed or a girl joins girl scouts for the first time, one of the first tasks at hand is to learn the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
What is the Girl Scout Promise? What is the Girl Scout Law?
Let's take a look at these two basic cornerstones of every Girl Scouting experience. For starters they give a great list of the principles that every scout aspires to live by.
The promise and law are recited at the beginning of each troop meeting. The girls and leaders will stand at attention with their right hand raised, showing three fingers (pointer, middle and ring fingers). These three fingers represent the pillars of the Girl Scout Promise.
At our meetings we had a role on our Kaper Chart for a girl to lead the troop in reciting the promise and law.
Let's start with the Girl Scout Promise, the shorter of the two
The Girl Scout Promise
On my honor, I will try:
- To serve God* and my country
- To help people at all times,
- And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
*Members may substitute for the word God in accordance with their own spiritual beliefs.
I am including two great videos made by actual Girl Scouts, if your girls would be interested in that. Our troop always loved seeing other scouts, and I think the scouts in these videos did such a good job.

The Girl Scout Law
The girl scout law is a guide of the qualities and principles that Girl Scouts aim to live by. Starting out the goal is just to try to memorize the law, but eventually the hope is that each scout lives by these words each day. Here's how it goes:
I will do my best to be:
- honest and fair,
- friendly and helpful,
- considerate and caring,
- courageous and strong,
- responsible for what I say and do,
- to respect myself and others,
- to respect authority,
- to use resources wisely,
- to make the world a better place,
- and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Here is a nice video of the Girl Scout Law, with helpful hand motions, again what a great job these scouts did!
