The Perfect New Weight Loss Program for Stress Eaters

People think I'm crazy for starting a weight loss program right before the holidays. “That would be so hard!”

But I knew if I didn't start before Halloween that I'd gain weight over the holidays. Again.

So I realized that I'd actually be crazy not to start before the holidays.

Whatever day you're seeing this message, stop and take a minute to think how the next holiday, your reunion, your vacation or the new year would be if today was the day you started.

Can you picture it? I believe in you and I know you can do it. But! You can't get there unless you take the first step.

The first step is finding something that really works for you.

What Other Weight Loss Programs Lack

I've had a lot of ups and downs in my weight loss journey. Everything out there sounds too good to be true and it usually is.

In fact, in researching this article, I was looking up some of the most common Google searches on the topic of weight loss.

The top of the list is like a who's who of magic bullet weight loss products.

Hundreds of thousands of people searching Google, every single month for things like:

-Weight Loss Pills

-Weight Loss Shakes

-Weight Loss Suppliments

-Weight Loss Tea

-Weight Loss Medication

-Weight Loss Surgery

Now, I am sure that there will be people reading this who have found success at one time or another with one of the products above. I don't want to detract from your success and hope you continue on your way to your healthy life!

But the one thing that none of them tackle is the incredible emotional struggle that many of us have with food.

Maybe it's not stress eating for you- maybe it's boredom eating, maybe it's social situations that are hard. Whatever the situation is that you are dealing with, it probably is triggered by some emotion.

If you are anything like me, you find yourself at the end of a stressful day, hulking through your kitchen or the grocery store- frantic, rabid, hangry. Searching for something to put in your mouth. And it usually ain't tea.

Maybe you lost a few pounds recently with a tried and true magic bullet, but you had a rough day or a nerve wracking social outing. You slipped, and it seemed worth it at the time, but now you feel so low.

It feels like it's all or nothing. You tried and you failed.

You can try the shakes, pills or supplements but what if there was a weight loss program that actually takes all the emotions behind your relationship with food, and tackles them head on?

One that sets you up for a long term healthy lifestyle?

What if you could figure out your triggers, anticipate them, even avoid them?

What if you had control again?

What if you had support? A place in the palm of your hand, to get help- the minute you struggle or the minute you need to celebrate?

It's not free- but then again, neither are those shakes. Neither one is forever.

The good thing is that long after you stop paying for this weight loss program, you'll still be eating right with a clear emotional path. Once you stop paying for the shakes, you're back on your own.

My Wins Since Starting the Weight Loss Program

I've been going through this weight loss program since September and, can I tell you about some of my wins?

-I lost weight every week since I joined- including the week of Halloween- during the season that I usually switch to stretchy pants in anticipation of another year's winter weight gain.

-I ate three pieces of Halloween candy- total since BEFORE Halloween. (Last year it would have been several per day!)

-I had a productive talk with a “fun enabler” type of friend about my goals and how I'll be eating when we are together.

-I no longer consider healthy food “wasted” on me, saving it for my kids.

-I freak out about this crazy-delish roasted veggie recipe that I make for my lunches each week. (I rarely cooked for myself in the past, it seemed too time consuming and like it wasn't “worth it” for “just me”.) Never thought I'd say THAT about veggies.

-I started cooking dinners at home more rather than ordering out. While I've been doing this program, we have also been trying meal delivery services like Blue Apron, and our long time favorite, Plated. I look at the calories each evening, and if it's more than I need, I save half for the next day at lunch. I'm still plenty full!

Oh! We recently tried out Sun Basket too, check out my Sun Basket Review to see how it compares.

In general, meal delivery services work great for us and- another shocker- I am actually feeling confident about cooking!

-I have not given up my glass of wine some days. Now, rather than mindlessly drinking these calories, I just plan for it and enjoy it.

These are just some of the wins that I have celebrated since starting, and I'm just one person from My Group. I can't even count the wins we have celebrated together.

The Perfect Weight Loss Program for Stress Eaters

The Perfect Weight Loss App for Stress Eaters

So the weight loss program I'm using is a new app called Noom Weight Loss Coach.

It's a smart phone app, so it's right where a lot of us already spend our time.

In the past I've logged my food with other free apps, like Fitbit or MyFitnessPal, which have been super helpful in their own way.

But again, no weight loss program I've tried provided me with education and guidance to break down the reasons that I struggle with eating healthy.

Noom Coach combines several key features, like food logging, coach support, team support, recipes and very short, daily Psych Tricks, which are psychology-backed hacks to shed light on each step of the process.

They address every emotional hurdle- from the “I don't know if I can do this” hurdles of the first couple weeks to the “I'm bored and stuck, now what” hurdle that came several weeks in.

There were a couple days that the messages cut right to my core.

Check out this screen shot from early on in the program:

Stress Eating and Emotional Eating

You guys, this is serious, life-changing, self-esteem boosting gold for anyone who has struggled with emotional eating.

It's not making shakes. It's not taking pills or brewing teas. It's not counting points.

It's unraveling the deep-seated knots of pain inside you. It's ironing out your crinkled heart. It's laying a path that you'll be so glad to walk.

And I'm so grateful that I found it.

  1. Great article! I was given the opportunity to try NOOM at no cost through my health insurance company. I was on the verge of having to take Cholesterol, Diabetes and BP meds. I started the first of June and now, almost 6 months later, I have lost 40 lbs. I am exercising daily and now know how to make healthy choices. This is not a fad diet, it really is just a better way to eat. I highly recommend it!
